Vestavia Hills Dentist

Dr. Tom Dudney – Diplomate ABAD

Dr. Thomas E. Dudney, of Greystone Smile Design, recently completed the requirements for Diplomate status in the American Board of Aesthetic Dentistry.

In the early 1990’s, as a result of the rapid growth in aesthetic dentistry, it was determined that closer cooperation among the various dental organizations and the academic institutions was imperative and that universal professional standards should be developed. The Aesthetic Educational Parameters was assembled to evaluate the need for these standards. A committee was formed in January, 1993 consisting of 17 highly recognized individuals across a wide gamut of the aesthetic dental community. From the results of the committee’s work the American Board of Aesthetic Dentistry was formed.

Dr. Trent Buchanan To Receive FAGD Award

Trent H. Buchanan, D.M.D., of Greystone Smile Design, recently completed the requirements for the prestigious Fellowship Award from the Academy of General Dentistry and will be recognized for his accomplishments at the July 2010 meeting in New Orleans.

- Completion of 500 hours of approved dental continuing education credit.

- Successful completion of the Fellowship Examination.  The exam includes material from all dental disciplines and strongly emphasizes clinical applications of accepted dental knowledge, techniques, and procedures.

The mission of the Academy of General Dentistry is to serve the needs and represent the interest of general dentists, to promote the oral health of the public, and to foster continued proficiency of general dentists through quality continuing dental education in order to better serve the public.

Thomas E. Dudney, DMD, shares a case report describing the importance of diagnosis and treatment planning when  treating a patient suffering from erosive tooth wear with aesthetic all-ceramic restorations.

 

In cases when patients present with severe tooth wear, it is incumbent upon the clinician to determine the etiology of the wear prior to initiating restorative treatment. The nature of a patient’s particular type of tooth wear could adversely affect the long-term success of any proposed restorative treatment plan. A systematic analysis and diagnosis of dental wear is essential to determining its etiologies, since there could be a mechanical cause, a chemical cause, or combination of causes.  View entire article.
